Why Going Live Sells More Than Posting (And How to Make Your Next Live Count)

Why Going Live Sells More Than Posting (And How to Make Your Next Live Count)

Let's be honest about something.

You can post the perfect photo, write the perfect caption, and use all the right hashtags, and people will still scroll right past it. Not because your product isn't good. Because a post is easy to ignore.

A person isn't.

When you go live, something shifts. Shoppers stop being an audience and start being part of a conversation. They see your product up close, hear the story behind it, ask questions, and get answers in real time. They meet you. And when people feel like they know the person behind a brand, they buy differently. They buy with trust.

That's why I built live shopping into the heart of KarmaChic. Not as an extra feature, but as the main event. Because I've watched what happens when a maker gets in front of a camera and talks about what they love. It sells.

If going live feels intimidating, I get it. Here's how to make your next live feel easier and work harder.

Move 1: Pick 3 to 5 Products, Not Your Whole Shop

The biggest mistake I see on a first live is trying to show everything.

It feels generous, but it's overwhelming for the person watching. Too many choices make it harder to decide, and harder to decide means fewer sales.

Instead, choose three to five products and build your live around them. Lead with your bestseller, since it's already proven. Add something new to create excitement, and include one piece at a lower price point so there's an easy yes for first-time buyers.

A focused live is easier to watch, easier to follow, and much easier to buy from.

Move 2: Tell the Story Behind Each Piece

Anyone can describe a product. Only you can tell its story.

Where did the idea come from? What makes it different? How is it made? Who did you picture wearing it or using it when you created it?

Stories are what people remember long after the live ends. They're also what people repeat when they tell a friend about you. "She makes every piece by hand, and this one was inspired by her grandmother's jewelry box" is a lot more powerful than "this necklace is $45."

You don't need a script. Just jot down one or two sentences about each product before you go live so you're not searching for words on camera.

Move 3: Show It in Real Life

Photos are great. Real life is better.

On a live, you can do what no product photo can. Wear it. Use it. Turn it in the light. Hold it close to the camera so people can see the detail, the texture, the color the way it actually looks.

If you sell apparel, show how it moves. If you sell jewelry, layer it. If you offer a service, walk people through what working with you actually feels like. If you sell something people eat, drink, or use, let them watch you enjoy it.

This is where shoppers go from "that's pretty" to "I want that."

Move 4: Give Them a Reason to Buy Now

People who watch a live are already interested. Your job is to give them a reason not to wait.

A few ideas that work well:

  • A live-only price that ends when the live does
  • A free gift with any purchase made during the live
  • A limited quantity ("I only made 10 of these")
  • A bundle you only offer on camera

The key is to keep it real. If you say a price is live-only, honor that. Trust is the whole reason live shopping works, and your community will notice if the "limited time" offer is still there next week.

And say the call to action out loud more than once. People join a live at different times, so remind them how to buy every few minutes.

Move 5: Make the Replay Work for You

Here's the part most people skip, and it's where a live really pays off.

Your live doesn't end when you stop broadcasting. Every live is full of content you can use all week long. Go back through the replay and cut two or three short clips:

  • A moment where you tell the story behind a product
  • A close-up of your bestseller in action
  • A funny or real moment that shows your personality

Post those clips as reels and shorts over the next several days, each with a clear call to action. One live can easily become a full week of content, and every clip brings new people back to your shop.

You Don't Have to Do It Alone

Going live on your own can feel like talking into a void. That's exactly why community matters so much.

When you go live on KarmaChic, your broadcast goes out to multiple channels at once, so you reach your audience wherever they already are. And you're surrounded by Brand Partners who show up, cheer each other on, and share each other's lives. That's what it means to be part of a marketplace that markets you back.
